Winter scrapbook layout featuring a serene swan by the lake in Stavanger, Norway, designed using the Loving Mini Kit and handmade embellishments
My husband and I are enjoying a winter holiday in Stavanger, where we are taking a tour around Breiavatnet. Breiavatnet is well-known for its swans, as well as ducks and other birds. We had a lovely visit to Stavanger.
Creating a Split-Photo Scrapbook Layout with the Loving Mini Kit
Scrapbooking is more than just preserving memories—it's a way to tell your story creatively. In this tutorial, I’ll walk you through how I created a split-photo scrapbook layout using the Loving Mini Kit and a few simple techniques to add depth, texture, and personality to my pages. Whether you're new to this style or looking for fresh ideas, this project is easy to follow and fun to create.
Step 1: Editing & Splitting the Photo for a Two-Page Spread
A large photo across two pages adds a stunning effect to any scrapbook layout. I started by selecting a winter scene from my trip to Stavanger, Norway and edited the image in Adobe Lightroom to enhance its colors and clarity.
To create the split-photo effect, I opened the image in Adobe Photoshop, set up an A4 template, and added a 7x8.25-inch photo box. I then divided the image into two equal parts, ensuring that when printed, it would align seamlessly across both pages.
Tip: If you’re using a different size scrapbook, adjust the dimensions to fit your layout. Just make sure to split the image exactly in the middle for a cohesive look.
Step 2: Preparing & Cutting Embellishments
To complement the photo, I used embellishments from the Loving Mini Kit, which includes printable elements and journaling cards.
After printing the embellishments, I carefully cut them out and used my EK Tools Circle Punch (1.50 inch) to get perfectly shaped sentiment labels.
Tip: A circle punch is great for adding balance to your layout while keeping the design clean and uniform.
Step 3: Softening the Edges with a Corner Punch
To give the journaling card a polished look, I rounded the corners using a corner punch. This small detail makes a difference, giving the card a softer, professional finish while helping it blend seamlessly into the layout.
Why it works: Rounded edges help the journaling card stand out without looking too rigid, creating a more cohesive flow on the page.
Step 4: Adding Dimension & Texture
To bring the layout to life, I layered different elements for depth and visual interest.
Adhesive Foam – I placed some embellishments on foam tape to lift them off the page and create a subtle 3D effect.
Heart Puffy Stickers – These added a playful touch and balanced the design.
Date Stamp with Dye Ink – A quick and easy way to mark the memory and add a timeless detail.
Step 5: Assembling the Layout
With all the elements ready, I arranged them on the page, making sure everything flowed naturally across the split-photo design. The combination of structured placement and organic layering helped achieve a balanced, storytelling layout.
The final result? A two-page spread that beautifully captures a winter memory with a mix of photo, journaling, and decorative elements.Loving Mini Kit layout spreads are going to be in my story album 6x8.
